Glory

Glory is a Christian Rock song based on biblical scriptures that describe the Glory of God.

How might I begin to describe the supreme and everlasting Glory of our Most High God? When we use a word like "glory" each and every day it becomes all too familiar, losing its magic and mystery. So I thought I'd make a start by looking up the definition on

Glory is a Christian Rock song based on biblical scriptures that describe the Glory of God.

How might I begin to describe the supreme and everlasting Glory of our Most High God? When we use a word like "glory" each and every day it becomes all too familiar, losing its magic and mystery. So I thought I'd make a start by looking up the definition on Google, and I found two meanings for word "glory":

  1. high renown or honour won by notable achievements
  2. magnificence or great beauty

  3. High Renown

"It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple." Isaiah 6:1 NLT

The first definition reminds me of Isaiah 6:1, quoted above, where Our God is said to have accumulated a number of achievements. How do we know?

The temple that Solomon had built was huge; we know this because the dimensions are described in great detail in 1 Kings Chapter 6. I love the picture that is conjured here: the Lord sitting on his throne with the length of his robe filling the temple, not just "covering" the width and breadth of the floor space but "filling" it ie folded in piles, creased and crumpled just to cram it into all the available space.

In those days, a victorious king would take the robe of the defeated king, and have a piece of it cut and attached to the end of his own robe. In this way, you could tell how victorious a king was by the length of the attachments on his robe, otherwise known as his "train".

Our God is victorious indeed! The Israelites would have known this first hand, as God had led them through battle after battle from generation to the next. There isn't a time when He failed, or when He let them down. Even as they were led into capture, though their disobedience, He promised never to forsake them. That promise, and every promise since, was met in full.

  1. Great Beauty

"When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by." Exodus 33:22 NIV

This goes without saying: I know of no other way to describe our God than as magnificent and wondrous!

I'm reminded of Moses in Exodus 33, where he asks to see the glory of God's presence, but God explains that nobody can see His face and live. Yet, in His compassion, God agrees to a small part of Moses's request. He offers to hide Moses in a rock crevice, shield Moses with His hand as He passes by, and then remove His hand so that Moses can glimpse Him from behind. That must have been incredible, like trying to stare at the sun to behold its brightness, only much, much brighter!!

My song, Glory, is a celebration of the majestic, magnificent splendour of our God - one God in three persons. I reference scriptures that remind us how He never changes (Heb 13:8), that the mountains shake in His presence (Psa 114:6, 7) and that stones would shout out His glory if we stayed silent (Luke 19:40). He is the everlasting God (Isaiah 40:28) with an everlasting rule (Eph 1:21) over an everlasting kingdom (Psa 145.13). there is none like Him, who makes an everlasting promise (Jer 32:40) to give everlasting life to those who follow Him (John 10:28). He is God all by Himself (Isaiah 46:9), and He deserves the highest of praise, and all of the glory!

Amen!
